  Geographical Coordinate Grid

Geographical Coordinate Grid includes several hierarchical grids with different cell size: 100 m, 200 m, 500 m, 1 000 m, 2 500 m and 10 000 m. The grid system is mostly used for the dissemination of statistical data. Each grid is available in D48/GK and D96/TM coordinate reference system. A starting point of each grid cell is also available and is used for the simplification of grid cells naming. The grid cells nomenclature is consistent across the entire hierarchical system.

The Geographical Grid Database contains 7 squared grid networks with different cell size: 100 m, 200 m, 500 m, 1 000 m, 2 500 m, 5 000 m and 10 000 m.

Statement

Grid cells are squared and are different sizes: 100 m, 200 m, 500 m, 1 000 m, 2 500 m, 5 000 m and 10 000 m. The grid networks were created using AutoCAD MAP 2007 software. The conversion to polygon grid was performed by ArcGIS Map 9.0. A starting point of the network is the geographic point where meridian 15° is crossed by parallel, 5000 km from equator.

The cell nomenclature has a following formula:

SIHMcell size inmeters_Y-coordinate_X-coordinates (the Y-coordinate and the X-coordinate are shortened by the number of excess zeros)

Examples:

- SIHM100_4630_1037 (instead of: SIHM100_463000_103700)

- SIHM200_4630_1036 (instead of: SIHM200_463000_103600)

There are 14 shapefiles available, 7 shapefiles for each projection. Each shapefile has three standard files:

- .shp contains a geometry

- .shx contains a geometric index

- .dbf contains attributes

In the attribute file (.dbf), there is currently only one column named IME_CELICE (cell name), where the name of each cell is written according to the nomenclature.
