The basis for a National Road Registry is information from "technical database of public road and road facilities" maintained by the Slovenian Infrastructure Agency. Its content is prescribed by the "Rules of marking of public roads and database on public roads and road facilities ".

Slovenian Infrastructure Agency is maintaining this technical database using different data sources, such as:

- construction contractor in the case of new road construction or road maintenance as well as in the case of maintenance works for the public benefit,

- concessionaire with granted concession for the public service, maintenance and protection of a national roads,

- Motorway Company in the Republic of Slovenia for the motorways.

Slovenian Infrastructure Agency is regularly checking the situation on a main national and regional road based on technical reports on construction/re-construction works, picture documents and special road measurements (presumably) every two years.

Slovenian Infrastructure Agency is checking the information on national roads depending on the situation on the ground, over a period of ten years.

The maintenance of attributes is carried out on regular basis, once a year a graphical and an attribute part is harmonized. After harmonization the consolidated version of technical database of public road and road facilities is prepared. This version of technical database is used for the preparation of summarized data for other users.
